Bump in the Road

well, that was quite the weekend.  most of which I’d rather not repeat.  I don’t take lightly letting people down.   hopefully there was some redemption yesterday.  at least for me and my self-opinion.   can’t go backwards, though.  onward, y’all.

Henny Penny, Look Out!

I’m beginning to think this Age of Information is giving way to a twisted Age of Chicken Little.  Issues bubble up from seemingly nowhere, fester, pop and then disappear.  Oil prices rise and fall on the political fortunes of barely 3rd world countries.  We panic but don’t bother to ween ourselves of our SUVs, subdivisions and plastic bottles.  Horrendous blizzards and killing droughts sweep the globe but here we sit, glad it’s 70 for two weeks in February.

The irony is that the sky really is falling but we’re too worried about our Facebook security settings and The Sanctity of Marriage to do anything about it.  We deserve whatever we get.

Loose Lips

Dear Senator Scott Brown,

When discussing your childhood sexual abuse, you might want to rephrase this:

“I can remember how he looked, every inch of him: his long sandy, light brown hair; his long, full mustache; the beads he wore; the tie-dyed T-shirts and the cutoff jeans, which gave him the look of a hippie,’’

I’m heading down the Atlanta Highway for a little anniversary show with my all-time favorite band.  Athens G-A may never be the same.

The Ettes, “Dead and Gone”

My mood.  Exactly.

Finished Patti Smith’s “Just Kids” last night and cried, of course.  What an amazing book.  I didn’t want it to end.  I guess it never did.

The End of Blogging - This has been my bitch with traditional “news” focused gay blogs for a long time. Aggregating all items pertaining to the term “gay”, isn’t interesting. Choire Sicha sums it up quite nicely: “She’s [Edith Zimmerman of Hairpin] not aggregating blog posts about the thing that just came down the wire. She’s making things, and I think one of the mistakes that a lot of blogs make that kind of dead-end them as blogs is covering the same thing that everyone’s covering instead of like creating things and stopping to make stuff,” Mr. Sicha said. “I really feel like she renewed this idea in me that this should not be about covering Keith goddamn Olbermann. This should be about engaging with the thing that most fascinates me or cracks me up at 2 in the morning.”
